How to Know about Brick quality?
Density, Weight, absorption, pore structure, thermal characteristic, moisture movement to be quality bricks.Brick quality are classified as follows.
First Class Bricks:
- plain surface,sharp edges,sizes with tolerance in Dimensions.
- Uniform Red or Brownish coloured.
- High compressive strength, not less than 10.7N/mm2.
- Machine Moulded.
- Efflorescence-Nil.
- Water absorbtion less than 15%.
Uses:
They are used for the exterior wall bricks works, sort colours and arches.
According to Indian standard Bricks classification.
ISO 1007: 1992.
Second class Bricks
- Slightly uneven faces and edges with tolerance in Dimensions.
- Uniform coloured but may be slightly over burnt.
- High crushing strength not less than 7N/mm2.
- Hand moulded.
- Efflorescence-little.
- Water absorbtion less than 20%
Uses:
They are used for internal walls and compound walls.
Third Class Bricks:
- May be distorted with blunt edges.
- Over burnt or under burnt and non uniform colour.
- High crushing strength not less than 3.5N/mm2.
- Hand moulded.
- Efflorescence-Large.
- Water absorbtion less than 25%.
Uses:
They are used for flouring, paving, small Brick foundation and brick hat lime concrete(B.B.L.C).
